According to a post on X by the Chief Minister’s Office on Friday, June 5, the cubs were rescued and brought to CWRC, where wildlife experts and animal keepers provided round-the-clock care. During their rehabilitation, the cubs were bottle-fed, monitored closely and gradually trained to develop the skills needed for survival in the wild.
As they grew stronger, the rehabilitation process focused on reducing human dependence while encouraging natural behaviours.
Before their final release, the bears underwent a soft-release process at Dehing Patkai National Park. This included gradual acclimatisation to their new environment and supervised walks in the forest with animal keepers to help them adapt to life in the wild.
Following the successful completion of the rehabilitation programme, the two bears were released into their natural habitat, marking the final stage of their journey from rescue to freedom.
The release is being seen as a significant conservation success, giving the orphaned cubs a second chance to survive and thrive in the wild.
