62 Fake Doctors Arrested in Assam Since 2025; 59 Cases Registered in Statewide Crackdown


 

GUWAHATI: A total of 62 fake doctors, commonly referred to as quacks, have been arrested across Assam since 2025 as part of a statewide crackdown on unqualified medical practitioners, with 59 cases registered so far.

The ongoing drive is aimed at identifying individuals allegedly practising medicine without valid qualifications or registration, while protecting patients from fraudulent treatment and strengthening the state's healthcare system.

Sharing the update on Friday, June 26, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the government is committed to eliminating unlawful practices that endanger public welfare.

"We're committed to weed out all forms of evil from our society. After an extensive crackdown on the drug syndicate and child marriage offenders, we're on a mission to crack down on quack doctors to ensure the sanctity of our healthcare system and protect patients," Sarma said in a post on X.

An infographic shared by the chief minister stated that 59 cases have been registered and 62 quack doctors arrested under the state's drive against fake medical practitioners since 2025.

Over the past year, authorities have carried out raids and initiated legal action against several individuals allegedly posing as qualified doctors in multiple districts. Officials said the campaign will continue to curb illegal medical practices, uphold professional standards in the healthcare sector and ensure the safety of patients across the state.
