GUWAHATI: The Assam Government has unveiled a series of cultural initiatives in the Assam Budget 2026 aimed at showcasing the state's heritage on a national platform and preserving the legacy of its iconic figures.

As part of the announcements, the government will organise a grand Bihu celebration in New Delhi, bringing Assam's rich cultural traditions to the national capital.
The Budget also proposes financial support for a commercial feature film on Ahom general Lachit Barphukan, to be produced in collaboration with a reputed filmmaker, with the aim of taking his legacy of courage and patriotism to national and global audiences.
In addition, the government will support the production of a commercial feature film on freedom fighter Swahid Kushal Konwar, highlighting his sacrifice and contribution to India's freedom struggle.
To mark the birth centenary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, the government will organise the grand closing ceremony of the centenary celebrations in New Delhi, celebrating the legendary musician's enduring legacy of humanity, cultural harmony and national unity before a nationwide audience.
