GUWAHATI: The flood situation in Darrang has turned critical after the western embankment of the Noa river breached. Water levels continue to rise, posing an immediate threat to nearby areas.

Darrang Deputy Commissioner Ayushi Jain visited the site and assessed the damage. She stated that authorities have prepared to convert a higher secondary school into a relief camp. One relief camp is already functioning. Through the gaon burhas, local residents have been advised to remain alert.
Jain confirmed that the SDRF team is on standby. Food and civil supply teams are also ready. “We are prepared to handle the situation,” she said. Officials estimate that if the current conditions persist, five villages could face submergence.
Authorities plan to deploy geo bags to seal the breach once the water flow slows. Continuous monitoring is underway to protect residents and minimize further impact. Local administration has urged people in vulnerable zones to follow safety instructions and cooperate with relief efforts.
