GUWAHATI: In a major crackdown on narcotics trafficking in the Northeast, Assam Rifles under Spear Corps, acting jointly with the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) Agartala, seized 55,626 bottles of illegal Codeine-based cough syrup worth approximately ₹1.27 crore at Agartala Railway Station in Tripura.

The operation was launched after Assam Rifles received credible intelligence about the movement of contraband through the railway network. Acting swiftly, the joint team intercepted a suspicious consignment and conducted a thorough search, uncovering the large cache of Codeine-based substances that had been concealed for illegal transportation.
The recovered contraband has since been handed over to the DRI, Agartala, for further investigation and legal proceedings.
In a related but separate operation conducted in Gossaipur, Udharbond area of Assam's Cachar district, Assam Rifles teamed up with Cachar Police to apprehend two smugglers. The joint team recovered 2,500 bottles (21 boxes) of Codeine Phosphate valued at approximately ₹7.25 lakh from the accused.
The seized contraband and the two apprehended individuals have been handed over to the concerned agencies for further legal action.
