Assam Seeks Centre’s Support as State Pushes for More Model Anganwadi Centres


 

GUWAHATI: In the 16th Assam Legislative Assembly Budget Session, Minister Ajanta Neog highlighted the state government’s efforts to improve Anganwadi infrastructure and informed the House that Assam has sought financial assistance from the Central Government for the redevelopment of remaining model Anganwadi centres in the state.

Replying to questions on the poor condition of Anganwadi centres, vacant posts, and issues faced by Anganwadi workers and helpers, Neog said she has forwarded a letter to the Centre requesting funds for the redevelopment of model Anganwadi centres. She also urged the Assam Government to provide additional funds to the department to support the development of more model Anganwadi centres across the state.

The Minister informed that the state government has approved the construction of 9,000 Anganwadi centres across Assam. Of these, construction of 4,000 centres has already been completed, while work on the remaining centres is currently underway.

Neog added that the government has also approved a proposal to establish model Anganwadi centres aimed at strengthening early childhood care and development facilities in Assam.
