GUWAHTI: Assam has signed six Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with leading organisations to expand the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), technology and innovation in school education, with a focus on teacher training, personalised learning, foundational literacy and digital skills.

The agreements were signed between Samagra Shiksha, Assam and the organisations, Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said on Friday, September 4. He described the partnerships as a step towards building a future-ready education system in the state.
“Attended the MoU signing ceremony between Samagra Shiksha and six leading organisations to harness the potential of Artificial Intelligence, technology and innovation to strengthen school education across the State,” Pegu wrote on X.
According to Pegu, the partnerships are aimed at creating a technology-enabled and inclusive education ecosystem in Assam while expanding learning opportunities for children across the state.
Under the partnership with Google AI, teachers will receive access to AI-powered educational tools, digital skills training and professional development programmes.
The collaboration with IIT Madras–Bodhan AI will focus on improving AI proficiency among teachers. Around one lakh teachers teaching Grades 6 to 12 are proposed to be trained under the initiative by May 2027.
The MoU with LEHS–Wadhwani AI will seek to strengthen foundational literacy by using AI-enabled assessments to evaluate students’ reading fluency.
Another partnership, with Educate Girls, will focus on identifying, enrolling and retaining out-of-school adolescents, with particular emphasis on girls.
The collaboration with EkStep–AXL will promote personalised, AI-assisted learning in foundational literacy and numeracy, while Canva Education will work on strengthening digital literacy, creativity, design thinking and innovation among teachers and students.
