GUWAHATI: A fifth-semester student of Tezpur University allegedly died by suicide inside his hostel room on Wednesday, September 16.

The university’s Dean of Academic Affairs, in an email circulated to students, announced the student’s death and stated that all classes had been called off for the day.
“It is with deep sadness that we inform you of the tragic passing of one of our students, Jyotisman Boruah, a fifth-semester student in the Integrated MSc Chemistry programme,” the email read.
According to a Tezpur University student, Boruah died by suicide inside his hostel room. He was a resident of Lachit Hostel.
“We are organising a candlelight march in response to this incident,” the student said.
