GUWAHATI: The Nagaon and Morigaon district administrations are fully prepared to hold a free, fair and secure by-election to the 9-Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency on Tuesday, October 6. A total of 19,02,009 voters will decide the fate of 15 candidates in the fray.

Under the leadership of Assam Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Goel, arrangements in both election districts, including law and order and the effective enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct, were reviewed ahead of polling. Polling will be held from 7 am to 5 pm. Polling personnel left for their respective booths today with election materials.
The constituency has 9,58,595 male voters, 9,43,364 female voters and 50 third-gender voters. It has 2,112 polling stations, including five auxiliary stations. Of these, five are model polling stations and 335 will be managed entirely by women.
To conduct the polls, 9,664 polling officials and 86 micro observers have been deployed. Sixty-nine Flying Squad Teams (FSTs) and 69 Static Surveillance Teams (SSTs) have been on duty since the bypoll was announced. To ensure effective monitoring, webcasting arrangements have been made at polling stations.
Under Section 60(c) of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, voting from home through postal ballot has already been completed for senior citizens above 85 years of age and voters with disabilities identified in the electoral roll.
The Chief Electoral Officer has appealed to all concerned to take part in the bypoll and exercise their democratic right to vote.
