GUWAHATI: The Kamrup Metro administration has approved the B. Borooah College’s proposal for allotment of land measuring 3 Bigha, 1 Katha, 1.76 Lecha in Ulubari, Guwahati, around 200 metres from the institute’s campus.

Dag No. 2916 and 2917, village Sahar Sarania Part II, Mouza: Ulubari under Guwahati Revenue Circle has been approved in favour of B. Borooah College, according to the minutes of a Land Advisory Committee meeting held at the office of Co-District Commissioner New Guwahati on September 10.
The meeting, presided over by Swapneel Paul, District Commissioner, Kamrup Metropolitan District, Guwahati, held a detailed discussion before the proposal was approved.
“The application is applied for allotment of the aforesaid land in offline mode and hence the proposal shall be sent to the Govt. Offline,” the minutes of the meeting read.
The proposal was approved on the eve of the college’s 84th Foundation Day.
B. Borooah College was established in 1943 in the name of Bholanath Borooah, a doyen of Assamese business and a close associate of Sahityarathi Lakshminath Bezbaruah.
Assam Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, who was himself a former student of the college, formally handed over the land allotment documents to the college authorities.
“As a former student of the institution, it was a special occasion to return to the familiar campus and interact with the respected teachers, staff and students,” the minister said.
He said that the additional land will support the institution’s infrastructure expansion and future development.
