GUWAHATI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday, May 29 prohibited the use of smart sunglasses by players, support staff and match officials during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL), citing serious anti-corruption concerns linked to the devices’ advanced communication capabilities.

In an advisory issued by the BCCI’s Anti-Corruption Security Unit (ACSU) to all IPL franchises, the board stated that certain companies have been marketing smart sunglasses to players and team personnel.
According to the advisory, the devices are equipped with features such as live streaming, text messaging and audio-video calling through mobile data or Wi-Fi connectivity, raising concerns over potential misuse during matches and team activities.
The ACSU stressed that the use of such wearable technology could compromise the league’s anti-corruption protocols and directed franchises to ensure that players and officials do not use the devices during the tournament.
The IPL has strict anti-corruption regulations in place to prevent unauthorised communication and protect the integrity of the competition.
