He defeated his nearest rival, INC’s Mira Borthakur Goswami, who garnered 53,670 votes. Independent candidate Jayanta Kumar Das finished third with 22,802 votes.

Among other candidates, Independent contenders Ballav Patra and Ayush Kumar Singh secured 1,323 and 817 votes respectively, finishing further behind in the race.

The result underlines BJP’s strong performance in one of Guwahati’s key constituencies, with Bordoloi maintaining a clear lead over his opponents throughout the counting process.

The Dispur contest had drawn significant attention this election cycle due to political shifts ahead of the polls. Bordoloi had resigned from the Congress before joining the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), citing internal dissent within the party.

Following his induction and candidature from the BJP in Dispur, Jayanta Das stepped down from the party and chose to contest the election as an independent candidate. Meanwhile, the Congress fielded Mira Borthakur Goswami in an attempt to retain its footing in the constituency.

Despite the political realignments and a multi-cornered contest, Pradyut Bordoloi ultimately emerged victorious, consolidating BJP’s position in one of Guwahati’s key constituencies.
