GUWAHATI: East Bengal FC defeated arch-rivals Mohun Bagan Super Giant 4-1 in the final of the 135th Durand Cup at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan on Sunday, August 23, to win the title for the 17th time.

The victory saw East Bengal draw level with Mohun Bagan on 17 Durand Cup titles.
East Bengal took an early lead through Th. Bipin Singh in the 10th minute before Edmund Lalrindika scored twice in the 12th and 22nd minutes to put his side 3-0 ahead.
Mohun Bagan pulled one back in the 33rd minute through Manvir Singh, but Lalrindika completed his hat-trick in the 44th minute to restore East Bengal's three-goal advantage.
East Bengal led 4-1 at half-time and held on to their lead after the break despite continued pressure from Mohun Bagan.
East Bengal goalkeeper Prabhsukhan Singh Gill made several important saves, while the defence dealt with Mohun Bagan's attacks to secure the victory.
The final whistle confirmed East Bengal's 4-1 win and their 17th Durand Cup title.
Lalrindika was named the Golden Ball winner, while Mohun Bagan goalkeeper Vishal Kaith received the Golden Glove. NorthEast United FC's Alaaeddine Ajaraie won the Golden Boot.
All three award winners received a ₹3 lakh cheque, while the Golden Ball winner also received the key to an SUV.
