The FIR was lodged by the District Commissioner, Kokrajhar, based on the findings of the enquiry into the incident in which around 60 girl students reportedly fell ill after consuming dinner at the hostel on Saturday night, September 26.

The students began experiencing abdominal pain at around 10:15 PM, with several subsequently reporting vomiting and loose motions. The affected students were taken to Kokrajhar Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

A doctor attending to the students said their symptoms were suggestive of possible food poisoning, although the exact cause of the illness had not been established at the time.

Following the incident, CIT students staged a protest on Monday, September 28, demanding immediate action against the hostel food contractor and improved hygiene and food-safety standards in the mess.

The protesting students alleged negligence on the part of the concerned authorities and the mess contractor, claiming that complaints regarding unhygienic kitchen conditions had been raised repeatedly but adequate action was not taken.
