GUWAHATI: The key accused in the controversial birthday celebration held on the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Flyover in Guwahati has been detained, and a case has been registered at Bharalumukh Police Station.

Police identified the accused as Gautam Baruah, who has been interrogated in connection with the incident that recently went viral on social media.
According to police sources, the case has been registered as Bharalumukh Police Station Case No. 79/2026. Baruah has been booked under Sections 125, 285 and 270 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The action follows widespread public outrage over a viral video showing a birthday celebration taking place on the Kumar Bhaskar Varma Flyover, one of Guwahati's key traffic corridors.
The footage showed a red carpet laid out on the flyover, with several people gathering on the roadway to celebrate a birthday. The incident drew sharp criticism from citizens, who questioned how a private event was allowed to take place on a public road and raised concerns over traffic disruption and public safety.
Social media users had demanded strict action against those involved, arguing that public infrastructure should not be used for personal celebrations and that traffic regulations must be enforced uniformly.
