GUWAHATI: The CBI Court in Guwahati has sentenced accused Md. Shakir to four years of Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) along with a fine of ₹14.05 lakh in a case relating to the collection and misappropriation of public deposits from investors in Assam. The sentencing took place on September 7, 2026.

According to a press release issued by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the case pertained to the collection of unregulated deposits from the public based on false promises of stock market investment and guaranteed, impractically high returns, followed by cheating of the depositors.
The CBI had registered the case on October 25, 2024, and after completing its investigation, filed a chargesheet against the accused on March 28, 2026. Following trial, the court convicted Md. Shakir on August 31, 2026, and pronounced the sentence a week later on September 7.
