GUWAHATI: India’s wholesale inflation rose to 9.92% in August from 9.78% in July, remaining close to 10% for the fourth consecutive month, according to government data released on Monday.

Wholesale food inflation also increased to 7.05% in August from 6.65% in the previous month.
Inflation in primary articles, however, eased to 7.76% in August from 8.52% in July, while Inflation in fuel and power rose to 22.93% from 20.05% during the same period.
Inflation in manufactured products remained largely steady at 8.37% in August, compared with 8.29% in July.
Petroleum and natural gas prices recorded a year-on-year increase of 34.41% in August, compared with a 26.99% rise in July.
Meanwhile, India’s retail inflation data is due later on Monday. Retail inflation stood at 4.45% in July, remaining within the Reserve Bank of India’s target range of 2% to 6%.
The latest wholesale inflation data comes amid continued pressure on food and fuel prices. Monsoon-related disruptions to food supplies, higher global crude prices and increased cooking gas prices have also contributed to inflationary pressures.
RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra recently said they needed to be watchful as the risks of higher food, fuel and other input prices translating into a broad-based increase in inflation.
