Overhead Power Cables to Gradually Disappear from Guwahati Roads as Govt Announces ₹2,500 Crore Plan


 

GUWAHATI: The Assam government has announced a ₹2,500 crore project to shift Guwahati’s overhead power network to underground cables in a phased manner.

In Phase I, ₹200 crore will be spent under the RDSS scheme to cover five major stretches, Finance Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah said in the Assembly on Friday, July 10, presenting the Budget.

Under the first phase, underground cabling will be undertaken along Paltan Bazar Square, AT Road between Paltan Bazar and Bharalumukh, MG Road from Bharalumukh to Padum Pukhuri, GS Road from Paltan Bazar to GMCH Road including the GMCH Road stretch, and GS Road from Bhangagarh to the Dispur Secretariat.
