GUWAHATI: The family of Ramanuj Goswami, the prime accused in the murder of his 25-year-old wife Riya Talukdar Goswami, has refused to accept his body following his death early Monday, September 14, saying they have left the matter in the hands of the public and the authorities.

Ramanuj allegedly jumped from Narakasur Hill at around 3 am while being taken to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). He had been arrested in connection with Riya’s murder in Guwahati’s Hatigaon area.
Following his death, Ramanuj’s family said they would neither visit nor accept his body. His father reportedly told the media, “We will not come to see him. We leave him in the hands of the Public.”
The family further stated that they had left the matter in the hands of the Assam government, the Supreme Court and the Gauhati High Court.
Meanwhile, Riya Talukdar Goswami’s Adya Shraddha ceremony was underway at Ramanuj’s ancestral home in Gauripur when news of his death emerged.
Speaking to the media, Ramanuj’s father said Hatigaon police had informed him that his son had jumped from the GMCH building. He added that he had already learnt about the alleged encounter through the media before receiving information from the police.
The circumstances surrounding Ramanuj Goswami’s death have raised further questions in the ongoing Hatigaon murder case. His family’s refusal to accept the body and their decision to leave the matter to the authorities have added another development to the case.
