Rape Accused Injured In Police Encounter During Crime Re-Creation Process In Assam's Chaygaon


 

GUWAHATI: A 35-year-old rape accused was injured in a police encounter in the Chaygaon area of Assam's Kamrup (Rural) district, officials said on Monday, June 1.

The accused, identified as Akkas Ali, sustained a bullet injury to his left leg. 

According to police sources, the incident occurred during an ongoing investigation when Ali was being taken to the location for a recreation of the crime scene. Ali was arrested in connection with the alleged rape of a 10-year-old girl. 

The accused allegedly attacked police personnel and attempted to flee custody. Officers opened fire to prevent his escape and in self defence, a police official said.

Following the encounter, he was admitted to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), where he is currently undergoing treatment under strict police supervision.
