GMCH treated 114 road accident victims during the six-day festive period, of whom nine succumbed to their injuries. The figures highlight the impact of road accidents during the celebrations, when vehicle movement increases across the city.
Of the 114 victims, 82 victims were admitted, 67 were men and 15 were women, while the gender of the remaining patients was not specified in the available data. Out of 9 death, 8 were men and 1 women.
Around 20 per cent of the injured were reportedly in critical condition and continued to require medical attention. Two-wheeler accidents accounted for a significant share of the cases. The rest were given basic medical attention for their relatively minor injuries.
Despite the fatalities and injuries, the overall number of road accidents in Guwahati reportedly declined by 15 per cent compared with the corresponding period last year.
