The complaint was submitted under the leadership of convenor Nalini Kumar Deka on behalf of the “Citizen Forum for Early Implementation of South East Guwahati Water Supply.” According to the forum, despite the project being under implementation since 2013, many households in several localities are yet to receive water supply connections.
Residents from areas including Manimugdha Nagar, Chachal, Satgaon, Basistha, Khanapara, Panjabari, Beltola and adjoining localities continue to face difficulties due to the delay in supply of drinking water under the scheme.
In the letter addressed to the Executive Engineer of the Jal Board at Khanapara, the forum also expressed concern over incomplete road restoration work in areas affected by pipeline excavation. Residents alleged that several roads remain damaged due to unfinished work related to the project.
The forum further questioned the role of the executing agency, alleging that the work has not been completed properly in many areas. It urged the Jal Board authorities to provide details regarding the progress of the project and the instructions issued to the company.
The residents’ body has also sought a discussion with Jal Board officials to address the issues and ensure early completion of the water supply scheme in the affected areas.
