The minister visited the project site early Thursday morning to take stock of the progress and assess challenges affecting its timely completion.

The project has a water treatment capacity of 37 million litres per day (MLD) and is designed to cater to around 15,000 households. It includes a distribution network of approximately 122 km covering five District Metered Areas (DMAs).

During the visit, Managing Director of the Guwahati Jal Board, Rohan Kumar Jha, informed the minister that the project is nearing commissioning.

Under the Intake and Water Treatment Plant contract package, the 37 MLD Water Treatment Plant and the 10.9 million-litre (ML) distribution reservoir are ready for commissioning, subject to completion of compliance measures recommended by IIT Guwahati regarding slope protection works for structural stability, as well as completion of the Water Treatment Plant's performance guarantee test.

Of the five DMAs, flushing and trial runs have already been completed in three. The remaining two DMAs will be taken up for flushing and trial runs after the necessary clearance from IIT Guwahati on slope protection and allied safety measures at the foothill of the distribution reservoir.

During the visit, Rai held discussions with officials on the status of the project and reviewed the pending works and measures required to ensure its timely completion.

The project, once commissioned, is expected to provide treated drinking water to around 15,000 households in North Guwahati through its 122-km distribution network.
