Sports Minister Raksha Khadse Visits Assam, Reviews Sports Science Facilities


 

GUWAHATI: Union Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Raksha Khadse on Saturday visited the Khelo India State Centre of Excellence (KISCE) Assam and the High Performance Centre in Guwahati on Sunday, May 24, where she interacted with athletes and reviewed sports science and training facilities.

During her visit, Khadse toured key infrastructure at the High Performance Centre, including sports science laboratories, recovery and rehabilitation units, and physiological and biomechanical assessment facilities. 

She was accompanied by Kausar Jamil Hilaly, Special Secretary, Department of Sports and Youth Welfare; Ankur Bharali, Director of the department; and D K Mittal, Regional Director of Sports Authority of India (SAI) Guwahati, along with other officials.

Interacting with athletes across disciplines, the Minister appreciated their dedication and encouraged them to pursue excellence with discipline and determination. She also reiterated the government’s focus on strengthening grassroots sports infrastructure and creating world-class training ecosystems.

Khadse noted that centres such as KISCE Assam and the High Performance Centre are playing a crucial role in nurturing talent and preparing athletes for international competitions.

According to an official press release, the High Performance Centre has emerged as a key facility in the region, equipped with modern systems for injury management, recovery, physiological testing and performance enhancement.

The Minister also reviewed ongoing athlete development programmes under the Khelo India initiative and discussed strengthening pathways for athletes from the Northeast to compete at national and international levels.
