GUWAHATI: Double Paralympic champion Sumit Antil created history by breaking his own world record in the men’s javelin throw F64 event at the 8th Indian Open International Para Athletics Championships 2026 on Wednesday, May 27.

Representing Haryana, Antil clinched the gold medal with a massive throw of 74.82 metres, surpassing his previous world record of 73.29m set during the 2022 Asian Para Games in Hangzhou.
The Indian para-athlete gradually built momentum in the competition, recording a strong 70.30m throw in his fourth attempt before producing the record-breaking effort in his fifth throw.
Antil dominated the nine-man field comfortably, while Maharashtra’s Sandip Sargar secured the silver medal with a best throw of 62.88m.
The achievement adds another milestone to Antil’s illustrious career. The Haryana athlete had also won his third consecutive World Para Athletics Championship gold medal in New Delhi last year.
