Guwahati Marks Eid al-Adha Celebrations with Grand Prayers Amid Tight Security


 

GUWAHATI: Muslims across Assam joined the rest of the country in celebrating Eid al-Adha on Thursday, May 28, with thousands gathering at mosques and Eidgahs to offer prayers amid tight security arrangements.

In Guwahati, large congregations assembled at several Eidgahs and mosques from the early hours of the morning, with large crowds seen in Hatigaon and Machkhowa. At the historic Machkhowa Eidgah Maidan, devotees offered Namaz and exchanged greetings while conveying messages of peace, unity and communal harmony.

Authorities maintained heightened security arrangements across the city to ensure the peaceful observance of the festival, popularly known as Bakrid.

Apart from Guwahati, Eid celebrations were witnessed across multiple districts of Assam, where devotees turned out in large numbers to participate in congregational prayers.

Nagaon district witnessed enthusiastic participation as thousands gathered at the renowned Anjuman Eidgah Maidan and several other Eidgahs across the district.

In Dhubri district, congregational prayers began around 8 am at various Eidgahs, followed by the traditional Qurbani rituals performed by families at their homes.

Across India, Eid al-Adha was celebrated with religious fervour as worshippers gathered at mosques and Eidgahs to mark the occasion. Authorities in other states deployed additional security personnel to ensure smooth and peaceful celebrations.
