GUWAHATI: Two cadres of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA) were killed and two others injured in a joint operation by the Assam Rifles and Indian Army at a UKNA camp in Manipur’s Churachandpur district.

The operation was launched following specific intelligence inputs on the night of August 29 in Phaibong village under Henglep subdivision. After maintaining surveillance over the camp, troops moved in at around 5 am on September 2.
At around 5:30 am, UKNA cadres opened fire on the troops, who responded with controlled fire, resulting in the deaths of two cadres and injuries to two others.
The subsequent search of the camp led to the recovery of 2 MA Rifles (5.56 mm), 1 AK-56 Rifle (7.62 mm), 1 Lathode Gun (40 mm), 7 Lathod Grenades, 15 AK Magazines, 371 AK-56 rounds, 601 MA Rifle rounds, and 172 SLR rounds.
The forces also recovered 15 combat uniforms, seven ammunition pouches, five backpacks, three combat bags and five pairs of jungle shoes.
Search operations in the surrounding jungle areas are continuing.
