GUWAHATI: Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu on Monday, August 3, chaired a review meeting in Sivasagar to assess flood damage to educational institutions in the district and directed officials to begin a comprehensive assessment for early restoration.

The meeting was held at the Office of the District Commissioner in Sivasagar and was attended by officials from the School Education Department.
According to the minister, 545 of Sivasagar’s 1,233 schools have been affected by the floods, with several institutions still remaining submerged.
Pegu directed officials to conduct a detailed assessment of damage to school buildings, classrooms, furniture, laboratory equipment, libraries, digital infrastructure and other educational assets to facilitate repair and rehabilitation work.
“Our priority is to restore normal academic activities as quickly as possible,” the minister said, stressing the need for a time-bound assessment.
The review comes as several districts in Upper Assam continue to recover from ongoing floods that have disrupted normal life, damaged infrastructure and affected thousands of students across the region.
