Ashok Singhal, Pijush Hazarika Among 12 Ministers Named for Assam Cabinet Expansion


 

GUWAHATI: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is set to expand his Council of Ministers, with 12 Members of the Assam Legislative Assembly scheduled to be sworn in as Cabinet Ministers on June 5, 2026.

According to a notification posted on X on Thursday, June 4, the legislators who will be inducted into the Assam Cabinet are Ashwini Ray Sarkar, Ashok Singhal, Bimal Borah, Biswajit Daimary, Jayant Mallabaruah, Kaushik Rai, Keshab Mahanta, Krishnendu Paul, Nilima Devi, Pijush Hazarika, Ranoj Pegu and Susanta Borgohain.

The oath-taking ceremony will be held at 12:45 PM on Thursday at the Jyoti-Bishnu Antarjatik Kala Mandir in Guwahati.

The swearing-in ceremony marks the first major expansion of the new BJP-led NDA government after Himanta Biswa Sarma assumed office for a second consecutive term as Chief Minister following the recent Assam Assembly elections.

Earlier, Sarma had taken oath along with four ministers- Ajanta Neog, Rameswar Teli, Atul Bora and Charan Boro- on May 12. With the induction of 12 more ministers, the state government is expected to allocate key portfolios and strengthen administrative representation across different regions of Assam.

The BJP-led NDA secured a commanding victory in the 2026 Assam Assembly elections, winning 102 seats in the 126-member House. The BJP won 82 seats, while alliance partners Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland People's Front (BPF) secured 10 seats each.

The swearing-in ceremony is expected to be attended by senior government officials, political leaders and invited dignitaries.
