The theme, titled “Assam Tea Garden,” will seek to combine the religious significance of Durga Puja with the natural and cultural heritage associated with Assam’s tea gardens.

According to the organisers, the pandal will highlight the state’s identity while portraying the lives and contributions of people associated with the tea industry. The depiction of Maa Durga will also carry symbolic elements reflecting Assam’s cultural landscape and the importance of tea gardens to the state.

The organisers said the theme has been selected to create a connection between tradition and nature while showcasing aspects of Assamese heritage through the festive celebrations.

The pandal will be designed by artists Babu Lal Mondal from West Bengal and Rajat Das from Assam. The committee has allocated a budget of around ₹20 lakh for this year’s Durga Puja celebrations.

Last year, the puja committee adopted “Assam’s Village Hut” or “Gaonor Ghar” as its theme, bringing elements of Assam’s traditional rural landscape into its celebrations.

As part of this year’s festivities, the committee will also organise a cultural programme titled “Navami Night” on Navami.

The 116th Durga Puja will be organised by River Side Sporting Club, Sarbojonin Durga Puja, Pandu Institute Colony, in Guwahati.
