For Durga Puja 2026, the committee has chosen “Nabanna Utsav”, a traditional Bengali harvest festival, with the aim of reconnecting the younger generation with rural traditions and the region’s agricultural heritage.
The puja pandal at Subash Nagar, Rest Camp, near Pandu College Gate, will be designed to give visitors the feel of a rural farmer’s home in Bengal, highlighting the simplicity and traditions of village life.
According to the committee, the pandal will be constructed using eco-friendly and sustainable materials, including bamboo, clay, straw and other environmentally friendly products.
The organisers said the theme is intended to highlight rural traditions and cultural roots while also promoting environmental awareness.
The Durga idol, measuring 15 feet, is being created by idol artist Nirmol Paul of Bishnupur, Guwahati. The estimated budget for the puja is ₹12.50 lakh.
The committee has invited residents and visitors to attend the puja and experience the “Nabanna Utsav” theme while seeking the blessings of Maa Durga.
The 52nd edition of the puja is being organised by the Subash Nagar Sarbajanin Durga Puja Committee at Subash Nagar, Rest Camp, Pandu College Gate, Guwahati-12.
