GUWAHATI: Senior leader Atul Bora has been elected as the leader of the Asom Gana Parishad’s legislature party, solidifying his position in the party’s ranks. Keshab Mahanta has been appointed as the Deputy Leader of the AGP’s legislature party.

In addition to it, the party has announced key appointments within its legislative wing. Tapan Das will serve as the Secretary of the legislature party, while Dharmeswar Roy has been named the Chief Whip.
The decisions were taken at a meeting of AGP legislators and it aimed to strengthen internal cohesion within the party following the assembly elections.
Atul Bora secured a decisive win from the Bokakhat constituency, defeating Raijor Dal’s Hari Prasad Saikia by a margin of 60,537 votes. In Kaliabor, Keshab Mahanta also emerged victorious, overcoming Raijor Dal candidate Pradip Kumar Baruah with a margin of 17,890 votes.
Tapan Das registered a resounding victory in Dimoria, defeating Indian National Congress candidate Kishor Kumar Baruah by 65,385 votes. Meanwhile, Dharmeswar Roy won the Bajali seat, beating Assam Jatiya Parishad’s Dilip Baruah by a margin of 24,446 votes.
The formation of the legislature party leadership is being viewed as a significant move by the AGP to sharpen its coordination on the Assembly floor and align with its alliance partners in shaping legislative strategy.
