In the advisory issued on Friday, August 21, the Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner urged people travelling for medical emergencies, airport and railway journeys, and other essential purposes to use designated alternative routes.

Travellers from Shillong, Nongpoh and Byrnihat heading towards Guwahati’s Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport and railway stations have been advised to take either the Byrnihat–Pillingkata–Killing route or the Nongpoh–Patharkhmah–Rani route.

For commuters travelling from Guwahati towards Shillong, including those arriving from the airport or railway stations, the administration has suggested the Basistha–Pillingkata–Killing route or the Rani–Patharkhmah–Mairang route.

The administration has urged commuters on both the Assam and Meghalaya sides to avoid the Jorabat–Byrnihat stretch and use the designated diversion routes.

Travellers have also been advised to plan their journeys in advance and cooperate with the authorities to ensure the smooth movement of essential traffic.
