According to an order issued by the Deputy Commissioner, the landslide occurred at Chainage 25+200 on the Shillong–Dawki Road, resulting in the complete disruption of road connectivity ahead of the main Laitlyngkot village.
The National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) has informed the administration that repair and restoration work is expected to take a few days to complete.
In the interest of public safety, authorities have suspended all public and vehicular movement from Laitlyngkot village onwards with immediate effect and until further notice.
The administration has advised residents, commuters and tourists to avoid travelling along the affected stretch during the closure period.
To facilitate travel, authorities have suggested the following alternate routes:
> Shillong – Sohra – Sohbar – Dawki
> Shillong – Jowai – Amlarem – Dawki
Commuters have been asked to follow diversion routes and directions issued by police, traffic personnel and NHIDCL officials, plan their journeys in advance and allow additional travel time.
The administration has also urged the public to cooperate with authorities to ensure smooth traffic management and public safety, while advising travellers to remain updated on weather alerts issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Emergency assistance is available through helpline number 112.
The order will remain in force until restoration work is completed and normal traffic movement can safely resume.
