GUWAHATI: A section of the ceiling inside the Plastic Surgery department of Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) collapsed on Thursday, July 30, injuring four patients undergoing treatment in the ward.

According to preliminary information, a section of the ward's ceiling gave way unexpectedly and fell on patients admitted to the department. Hospital staff rushed to the spot and provided immediate medical assistance to those injured.
Officials said the injured patients are in stable condition and are receiving necessary treatment.
Sources claimed that the ceiling had been in a deteriorated state for a considerable period, with concerns reportedly raised over the need for repairs. The collapse is suspected to have resulted from inadequate maintenance of the building.
