Mridumudra had been undergoing intensive treatment at GMCH since sustaining critical injuries in the alleged assault that took place on the night of May 30 at Gangapur under Mukalmua. Despite receiving treatment for over a month, she could not recover.
The attack had earlier claimed the life of 19-year-old Madhurjya Barman, who died at the scene. According to police, Madhurjya Barman suffered severe injuries to his head and neck during the attack. He was rushed to Nalbari Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
According to reports, Madhurjya Barman, a resident of Balipathar in Chamata, and Mridumudra Deka of Gangapur were travelling on a scooter when they were allegedly attacked by two individuals, identified as Roz Ali and Ashik Ali.
The incident triggered widespread outrage across Nalbari district, with local residents, student bodies and several organisations staging protests and demanding swift action against those accused.
The accused was later injured during a police operation after he allegedly attempted to escape custody and attack police personnel during a manhunt. He ultimately succumbed to his injuries.
Nalbari Senior Superintendent of Police Bibekananda Das said the accused allegedly snatched a weapon from police personnel and opened fire while trying to flee. Police retaliated, during which the accused sustained a bullet injury to his chest.
