According to an order issued by the Senior Superintendent of Police, Cachar, the personnel were suspended pending a departmental enquiry into alleged negligence in traffic duty during route-lining duty from Chirukandi point to Assam Secretariat, Barak Valley, Srikona.

The suspended personnel have been identified as SI Bijoy Goswami, I/C Srikona Police Post; SI Sibsankar Das of NH Way Police Post; LNK(UB)/476 Jahurul Islam of Katigorah Police Station; and LNK(UB)/976 Kawsar Ahmed Barbhuiya of the Traffic Branch, Silchar.

The four personnel have been directed to report to Police Reserve, Silchar, immediately and deposit their government kits. They will also attend daily roll call and cannot leave headquarters without permission during the suspension period.

Following the incident, the Chief Minister said an ambulance had been halted to make way for his convoy and called the action unacceptable. He apologised to the patient and the family, saying no Chief Minister’s passage should take precedence over a life requiring urgent medical care.

The Chief Minister also said his directions were clear that VIP movement must not disrupt ordinary citizens and ordered firm action against those responsible along with an inquiry.
