According to a notification dated May 21, every approved vegan food package will be required to display the newly prescribed vegan logo. The amendment has been made under the Food Safety and Standards (Vegan Foods) Amendment Regulations, 2026.
The new logo features a green "V" symbol with a leaf motif, enclosed within a square border, along with the word "Vegan" displayed below. The marking is intended to help consumers easily identify products that meet India's vegan food standards.
FSSAI stated that the amendment follows the consideration of objections and suggestions received from the public after the draft regulations were published in 2022.
The revised regulations will come into force on July 1, 2027, giving food businesses time to comply with the updated packaging and labelling requirements.
