Guwahati Floods After Heavy Rain, IMD Predicts More Showers Till July 14

GUWAHATI: Heavy rainfall on Wednesday, July 8, led to widespread waterlogging across several parts of Guwahati, severely disrupting traffic and daily life. Areas including Maligaon, Ambari, Rajgarh, Lamb Road, Kahilipara, Lokhra Road, Boragaon, Silpukhuri and Chandmari witnessed inundated roads, while the National Highway beneath the Jorabat flyover was submerged, bringing traffic on the lower stretch to a standstill.

In several localities, water levels reportedly rose up to knee height, leaving many vehicles stranded and breaking down. School buses and public transport vehicles were also caught in the waterlogged roads, particularly in the Maligaon area.

Although traffic continued to move over the Jorabat flyover, congestion increased as vehicles from both directions were forced to use the same route.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Guwahati is likely to continue witnessing generally cloudy skies with one or two spells of moderate rain on July 8, followed by light rain and thunderstorms later in the day and overnight.

The weather office has further forecast generally cloudy conditions with intermittent rain or thundershowers across the city until July 14, indicating that residents may continue to face wet weather over the coming week.
