GUWAHATI: All bars and hotels in Kamrup (Metro) permitted to operate round the clock have been directed to continue providing mandatory pick-up and drop-off services for customers to ensure their safety, following a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee held on Thursday, August 6.

The directive was issued during the meeting chaired by Kamrup (Metro) Deputy Commissioner Swapneel Paul at the Deputy Commissioner's office. The Deputy Commissioner also instructed the Excise Department and the District Transport Officer (Enforcement) to closely monitor compliance with the order.
The decision forms part of the district administration's efforts to strengthen road safety and promote responsible transport arrangements, particularly for late-night commuters.
During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner, who also chairs the District Road Safety Committee, directed the committee's sub-committee to conduct regular inspections of all flyovers under its jurisdiction to identify and address safety concerns.
The committee also discussed the regulation and systematic management of e-rickshaws to improve traffic discipline and ensure smoother movement of vehicles across the city.
Emphasising the need for coordinated action, the meeting called for greater cooperation among all concerned departments and stressed the importance of implementing practical and timely measures to enhance road safety across Guwahati.
The meeting was attended by Kamrup (Metro) District Development Commissioner Manjit Barkakati, Additional Deputy Commissioner Raja Baishya, District Road Safety Committee Member Secretary Abhijit Choudhury, ADCP Traffic-II Mrinmoy Goswami, Regional Transport Authority Secretary Tamsin Aftab, District Transport Officer Himanshu Kumar Das, and officials from the Public Works, Health, Excise and other departments.
An official order regarding the same is awaited.
