The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma at Lok Sewa Bhawan on Monday, September 7.

Khel Maharan 3.0 is aimed at expanding grassroots participation in sports, identifying sporting talent at an early age and creating a structured pathway for athlete development.

As part of the new Sishu Krida Samaroh initiative, 120 selected Under-12 athletes will be provided scholarships of ₹2,000 per month for two years. The financial assistance is intended to support their training and continued development.

The initiative will also focus on strengthening coaching and developing the capacity of local coaches. Residential coaching camps will be organised in Guwahati with participation from leading Indian and foreign coaches.

High-performing indigenous coaches will also be sent to reputed national institutes for advanced training and capacity building.

Khel Maharan 3.0 is scheduled to commence from November 1, with the programme planned across all 35 districts of Assam.
