World Dengue Day Observed Across Kamrup Metro; Awareness Programmes Held in Schools


 

GUWAHATI: World Dengue Day was observed across the Kamrup Metropolitan district on Saturday, May 16, with a series of awareness programmes aimed at educating students and the public about dengue prevention and control.

The event was held at Sonaram Higher Secondary School in Guwahati, where health officials, medical experts, teachers and students participated in awareness activities focused on combating mosquito-borne diseases.

Among those present at the programme were retired Assistant Director of Health Services Kumarendra Nath, General Malaria Officer (Metropolitan) Bikash Ranjan Gogoi, Academic In-Charge Himanshu Nath, District Malaria Officer Mridul Talukdar, District Advisor of the Vector Disease Control Scheme Sudarshana Mahanta, and District Epidemiologist Trisha Kataki.

As part of the observance, quiz competitions, essay writing contests and awareness meetings were organised to educate students about the causes, symptoms and preventive measures related to dengue fever. Similar awareness initiatives were also conducted in several schools across the metropolitan district.

In addition to school-based activities, awareness meetings were held at various Anganwadi Centres and Ayushman Arogya Mandirs across the district. Health teams also carried out mosquito source reduction drives in dengue-prone localities of the city as part of preventive measures.
