GUWAHATI: Assam is likely to receive heavy rainfall over the coming days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting isolated heavy rain until August 12 and isolated very heavy rain on August 13 and 14.

In its August 8 forecast, the IMD said an upper-air cyclonic circulation is present over northeast Assam and adjoining areas in the lower tropospheric levels.
Assam is likely to see fairly widespread to widespread rainfall on August 8-9 and August 12-14. Rainfall is expected to remain isolated to scattered on August 10-11. Thunderstorms and lightning are also likely, along with isolated heavy rain during the period.
Meghalaya is expected to see a similar weather pattern, with fairly widespread to widespread rainfall during the main periods of the forecast. Isolated heavy rain is likely until August 12, followed by isolated very heavy rain on August 13-14.
Arunachal Pradesh is likely to receive isolated to scattered rainfall initially, with fairly widespread to widespread rain expected later. Isolated heavy rain is forecast on August 8 and from August 11-14. Thunderstorms and lightning are also likely during parts of the period.
Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura are likely to receive fairly widespread to widespread rainfall through August 14. Isolated heavy rain is expected during August 8-9 and August 12-14, while thunderstorms and lightning are likely at times.
The IMD said heavy rainfall of 7-11 cm has already been recorded over Assam and Nagaland, along with several other parts of the country.
