The ECI has decided to use Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trail (VVPAT) systems at all polling stations for the bye-election.
The Model Code of Conduct has come into force with immediate effect in the districts where the constituency, or any part of it, falls, subject to the Commission's existing instructions.
For voter identification, the Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) will remain the primary document. The ECI has also permitted alternative documents including Aadhaar, MGNREGA job cards, bank or post office passbooks with photographs, driving licences, PAN cards, passports, pension documents and government-issued identity cards.
Candidates with criminal antecedents will also be required to publish information about their criminal background on three occasions during the campaign period. Political parties fielding such candidates will similarly have to publish the details and reasons for selecting them.
