GUWAHATI: The Rehabari Bilpar Durga Puja Committee is gearing up to celebrate a landmark occasion this year- its Diamond Jubilee, marking 60 years of uninterrupted Durga Puja celebrations since the committee’s inception in 1966.

To commemorate the milestone, the committee has chosen a theme befitting the occasion- “Diamond”. The pandal has been designed to resemble a magnificent diamond, with intricate structural work capturing the sparkle, angles and brilliance of the precious gemstone.
In keeping with the theme, the idol of Goddess Durga has also been crafted to give the appearance of being made of diamond, adding a shimmering and majestic touch to the festivities.
The puja, which has been organised every year since 1966, has grown into one of the most anticipated celebrations in the area, drawing devotees and visitors in large numbers. This year’s Diamond Jubilee edition is expected to be grander, reflecting six decades of tradition, devotion and community spirit.
The celebrations have been planned with a budget of around ₹35 lakh, with preparations currently underway at the venue.
Committee Joint Secretary Rupak Das expressed enthusiasm about this year’s celebrations, saying the diamond theme was chosen to symbolise the strength, clarity and enduring brilliance of the committee’s six-decade journey.
Artisans and craftsmen are working on the pandal and idol as preparations continue ahead of the festival.
The committee has invited devotees and the general public to visit the pandal and witness the sparkling tribute to 60 years of faith and festivity.
