The puja pandal will be crafted by local Assamese artists using bamboo and cloth, with the organisers stating that no plastic or other environmentally harmful materials will be used.

The Durga idol will also be made by local artisans, with harmful chemical colours being avoided. Instead, organic colours will be used as part of the committee’s effort to reduce pollution and make the celebrations more environmentally conscious.

The puja, which was first organised in 2003, is being held this year with an estimated budget of around Rs 6–7 lakh.

The organisers said the initiative aims to combine traditional Durga Puja celebrations with a focus on environmental sustainability while providing a platform for local artists and artisans.

The 24th Durga Puja celebration is being organised by the Sri Sri Durga Puja Committee 2026 and Jai Hind Sporting Club.
