GUWAHATI: The Assam Cabinet on Thursday, September 24, approved the setting up of a state-of-the-art Spice Laboratory in Guwahati under the Spices Board to facilitate spice testing and certification, with the aim of supporting marketing and exports.

The proposed facility is expected to strengthen quality testing infrastructure for spices from Assam and the wider Northeast. The Spices Board has previously identified Guwahati as a suitable location for a quality evaluation laboratory, noting the region’s potential for spice exports.
In another industry-related decision, the Cabinet approved a State Capital Investment Subsidy for eligible manufacturing units in Assam that qualify under the substantive provisions of the Uttar Poorva Transformative Industrialization Scheme (UNNATI), 2024, but were unable to obtain registration under the scheme.
The subsidy is intended to extend support to eligible units that meet the substantive requirements of UNNATI 2024 but could not complete registration under the scheme. UNNATI provides capital investment incentives to eligible manufacturing and service units in the Northeast.
