GUWAHATI: A female elephant was killed after being hit by the Silchar-Guwahati Express in Assam’s Hawaipur on Wednesday, September 16.

The incident occurred at around 4:30 PM on the downline stretch between Lanka and Hawaipur, a North-East Frontier Railway (NFR) official confirmed.
Hawaipur is a small railway station located in Assam’s Hojai district.
Following the accident, the injured elephant was taken for treatment but it succumbed to its injuries, the official added.
Visuals of the incident, showing the elephant and the railway track, were shared on X following the accident.
The incident has once again highlighted the risks faced by elephants while crossing railway tracks in Assam.
