Kaimari Government Primary School in Assam’s Barpeta district has been rebuilt and handed over nearly four years after it was washed away in the 2022 floods. The reconstructed school, developed by Group Legrand India in partnership with One Stage Organization, is expected to serve around 160 children in the village.
The school was severely damaged during the 2022 floods and eventually washed away, leaving students without an adequate learning facility and disrupting their education.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by the Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta district, government officials, community leaders, educators, students, and representatives of Group Legrand India and One Stage Organization.
The new building has five classrooms, a staff room, a digital learning room, a kitchen and storage facility, separate sanitation facilities for girls, boys and staff, classroom furniture, electricity connectivity and a playground.
The campus also incorporates the Building as Learning Aid (BALA) concept, which uses school infrastructure to create interactive learning spaces for students.
Speaking at the inauguration, Abida Aneez, Vice President of Sustainability and CSR at Group Legrand India, said the reconstruction was intended to restore educational opportunities for children affected by the floods.
“Education is one of the most powerful tools for transforming lives. When the Kaimari Government Primary School was lost during the 2022 floods, children in the village lost more than a building; they lost a space where dreams were nurtured and futures were shaped. Through this reconstruction, we hope to restore that opportunity for every child who walks through these classrooms. Our aspiration is that this school becomes a place where children learn, grow, discover their potential, and build a brighter future for themselves and their community,” she said.
The project was completed with the support of local authorities, school management committees, teachers, parents and community members. Group Legrand India had also supported Kharbali Government Primary School in 2023 as part of its efforts to improve educational infrastructure in Assam.
