Assam’s Jintimani Kalita Earns India Women’s T20I Call-Up for Zimbabwe Series


 

GUWAHATI: Assam cricketer Jintimani Kalita has earned her maiden call-up to the Indian women’s national team after being named in the T20I squad for the upcoming Zimbabwe series.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squads on Tuesday, October 6 with Kalita included in the 15-member T20I side.

Kalita becomes the latest Assam cricketer to break into the Indian setup, following Uma Chetry and Riyan Parag.

The T20I squad will be led by Smriti Mandhana, who has been appointed India’s full-time white-ball captain, taking over from Harmanpreet Kaur. Mandhana, who has represented India since 2013, has previously captained the side in 18 T20Is and four ODIs.

She most recently guided Royal Challengers Bengaluru to Women’s Premier League titles in 2024 and 2026.

Shafali Verma has been named vice-captain of the T20I side, which also features Harmanpreet Kaur, Niki Prasad, Anushka Sharma, Deepti Sharma, Prema Rawat, Sree Charani, Nandni Sharma, Kranti Gaud, Arundhati Reddy and Minnu Mani. Richa Ghosh and G. Kamalini are the two wicketkeepers.

India will play three T20Is against Zimbabwe in Raipur on October 16, 18 and 20.
